Student Transition Program

Program Overview

At DoDEA Pacific, military-connected children are at the heart of all we do. We recognize our military children move three times more often than their civilian peers, with many students attending six to nine different schools during their K-12 years. We also know frequent moves may cause stress and anxiety, adversely impacting students.

DoDEA Pacific’s Student Transition Program is designed to assist newly arriving elementary, middle and high school students with finding community within their new school.

Each Student Transition Program is served by a Program Coordinator, Student Ambassadors, and others and provides:

  • Opportunities for social engagement with supportive peers and adults
  • Ongoing activities and support during school lunch times such as Resiliency Lunch Bunch with the School Liaison Officer
  • A personalized school tour from the counselor, who can answer questions about classes and programs
  • Parent and student support including information about mental health and other resources within and outside of the school setting
  • Resources to assist following a PCS move

Student Ambassadors

Student Council representatives and 5th grade members of the Flag Patrol serve as student ambassadors - student leaders who provide informal support (eat lunch together, answer questions, hang-out and become a “buddy”).

Onboarding Sessions

The transition program delivers support for new students with programs such as the Resiliency Lunch Bunch with the School Liaison Officer. Resiliency training empowers students to cope with challenges, build strong support systems, and cultivate a growth mindset, ultimately leading to greater success and happiness.

PCSing Celebration

Student PCS moves are celebrated with a gift to departing students of a memento with which to remember their time at Arnn Elementary School (generously provided by the folks at School Support Services). Parent support is available by contacting the School Liaison Officer or the Arnn Transition Support Coordinator.
